More than 22 million chickens and turkeys have been culled in the U.S. since February due to an outbreak of avian influenza, according to the Department of Agriculture.

Once the virus is detected in an animal, the flock is killed in order to prevent it from spreading. As of March 7, bird flu was detected in wild birds in 14 states and in commercial and backyard poultry in 13 states. The virus currently poses a low risk to the public, according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
