From the 1985 draft’s frozen envelope to the real reason Michael Jordan retired the first time, there’s nothing like a good NBA conspiracy.
And this one is the ultimate 2022 conspiracy, because it’s all about social media.
Basketball YouTuber Kenny Beecham had his interested piqued after seeing a tweet suggesting that the Los Angeles Lakers were shielding LeBron James from criticism after losses.

They were allegedly doing that by never using his photo in their nightly game result graphics whenever the Lakers lost.
And given that they’re 31-43, 10th in the West and at risk of dropping out of the play-in, that’s a lot of losing graphics.
But as Beecham found, the original claim was true – LeBron has not been used once in a losing graphic, and neither have fellow big names Anthony Davis or Russell Westbrook.
In contrast Malik Monk has been in 10 losing graphics, with Talen Horton-Tucker and Wayne Ellington used five times each.
“LeBron James has not been used on a loss graphic at all. Not ONE time,” Beecham explained.
“Mailk Monk has been used 10 out of 43 losses – they killing everybody!”
But when it comes to victories, LeBron is suddenly popular, being used in 10 of their 31 winning graphics. Westbrook has been in nine winning graphics.
“Also Anthony Davis was only used for one winning graphic? I know bro’s been injured a bunch but just, what?” Beecham said.
“So yeah, I just spent the last hour of my life doing this research, but I got no regrets.”
For reference, Wenyen Gabriel was used in the graphic for the Lakers’ loss to the Pelicans on Monday (AEDT).
Surely they wouldn’t be doing all of this on purpose. Surely…
