News Corpreports Haas and Kelly will be handed with a one to two-week suspension.

“Payne Haas is going to be suspended,” News Corp journalist Phil Rothfield told NRL 360 on Wednesday.

“The NRL are not happy with Payne even though he wasn’t the instigator. He got a very, very serious warning earlier this year or last year when he was last in strife. He’s going to be suspended one to two weeks.”

Kelly is already out injured — and will serve his ban later — but Haas has been named in Brisbane’s side to take on the Roosters on Friday.

NRL 360 host Braith Anasta asked if the suspension comes in place immediately and counts for this week.

“That’s the difficult part,” Rothfield said.

“The investigation is still not complete. They still have to speak to New South Wales Police because he’s on a good behaviour bond.

“They’ve looked at CCTV footage from the hotel so by Friday they might not have completed it so there is a chance he’ll play against the Roosters. But I can tell you he’s going to be suspended next week.”

According to the News Corp report Haas would have gotten off with a warning had it been his first incident.

But the 22-year-old was hit with a two-year good behaviour bond in February, 2021 after pleading guilty to intimidating police and using offensive behaviour. He was also fined by the NRL and suspended for three games.

Prior to that he was stood down by the Broncos in 2019 for refusing to co-operate with an investigation being carried out by the NRL’s integrity unit.
